What happens if the clutch release bearing gets worn out?
The nearby pressure plate has release fingers which then get pushed into the strong spring, resulting in the wheels and engine becoming disconnected. If the clutch release bearing were to get worn out, damaged, or malfunction in some way, then it would disrupt the entire disconnection process.
Why does the clutch noise go away when I release the pedal?
If the noise is gone, the pilot bearing is bad. A bearing noise that occurs when releasing the clutch pedal to engage the clutch while in neutral, but goes away when the pedal is depressed is caused by a bad transmission input shaft bearing.
When to check the release bearing on a manual transmission?
In the case of a manual transmission, also check the clutch release bearing for proper adjustment. If the release bearing shows signs of extreme wear and/or overheating, this is a clear indication that the driver has been routinely riding the clutch pedal and/or slipping the clutch.
Do you have to replace all of the clutch parts at once?
Because replacing a clutch is a labor-intensive job, so it makes sense to replace everything at once so your customer doesn’t have to replace something else later on. A clutch kit includes a new or remanufactured clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing.

Why do I hear a noise when I release the clutch?
If the noise is only happening when the clutch is engaged (pedal out), it’s not the throw out bearing. You’d only hear the noise when you push on the pedal. This is because the only time the throw out bearing is being used is when you are pushing the pedal down.
