Is ViewRanger the same as OS Maps?
OS Maps only permits you to either follow a route or record a route you cannot do both at the same time unless you use two devices. ViewRanger allows you to record and follow a track simultaneously – great if you deviate from your intended route and want to preserve it for the future.

Are OS Maps any good?
I’ve been using the OS Maps app for years now, it’s an absolute godsend, and much easier (albeit a little less adventurous) than carrying paper maps. I hike every weekend, and pretty much every holiday day I have in the UK, so it’s been well worth the annual fee.

Can Google Earth show public footpaths?
Most of us have probably used – this but if you haven’t there’s a great facility on Google Earth that shows walking / hiking/ cycling trails. Just click on the little white circle over the place you are looking to walk etc (with a man walking/cycling) when it opens click ‘display track on the map’.
Is ViewRanger going away?
It is going away? ViewRanger is now part of the Outdooractive family. The ViewRanger and Outdooractive teams are working together on one amazing platform. All improvements, new maps, new features etc. will be available on the combined Outdooractive platform and app.
Is ViewRanger being discontinued?
ViewRanger is currently still operational. Existing users can choose to continue using the original app until their subscription expires or to move over to OutdoorActive – but ViewRanger subscriptions aren’t being renewed and there are long-term plans to make the ViewRanger app redundant.
How do I get a 1 50000 map?
Under “Other Filters”, use the dropdown menu in the “Map Scale” box to select 1:50,000 (it’s near the top of the list). In the “Map Types” box, select Contours. Click on the green “Apply Filters” button near the top of the page. You will see a listing of all available 1:50,000-scale maps for that state.
What is the difference between Landranger and Explorer maps?
Landranger covers a larger area than Explorer but with less detail.
