Why does my car jump when I shift gears?
It starts to happen maybe about a half hr after I turn the car on driving around town (on the highway I’m fine) and when I shift gears from like Reverse to Drive it takes a couple of seconds and then the car jumps. Can you tell me what that is? (I’m thinking transmission but I’m no mechanic) Thanks
What happens when you shift from drive to neutral?
Shifting out of drive and into neutral every time you need to stop creates wear and tear on the transmission and valve body. The drive train already has a device which will allow it to decouple the engine from the transmission it’s called a torque converter.
Why do the RPMs go down when shifting into Park?
As for shifting into Drive, the RPMs will slightly go down because the engine connects to the transmission, and the resistance of the transmission fluid takes energy from the engine and lowers the idle speed slightly. Vice versa, when shifting into Park, the RPMs will go up temporarily because that resistance is no longer there.
What happens when I shift from Park to drive?
When I shift from Park straight to Drive, it goes from idle of 900rpms down to 600rpms right away. But, if I shift from Drive straight to Park it goes from 600rpms to 1500rpms for about 3 seconds (about 10 sec total to gradually come down to idle 900rpms). Same with Reverse to Park and Reverse to Neutral. Have you found the source of the issue?

What causes a car to jerk when shifting gears?
Transmission Fluid Level – A great place to start looking is the transmission fluid. Transmission fluid that is at the wrong fill level will cause the transmission to behave differently. If the fluid gets too low, than the car won’t move at all. See: Low Transmission Fluid Signs
What happens if you shift to drive while moving?
If the light turns green before you come to a complete stop, you’d have to go back into drive while moving. And you should only go into drive when stopped, really, really bad things may happen to your transmission if you shift to drive while moving. Depending on the design of the transmission, engine braking may not occur in “D”.
Why is my automatic transmission slipping while driving?
Why Is My Automatic Transmission Slipping? If you have an automatic transmission and it “slips” while you are driving it—that is, the car engine revs without the power going to the wheels—the most common cause (though not the only possible cause) is low transmission fluid.
How to fix a transmission that hesitates or jerks?
Common Fixes for a Transmission that Jerks or Hesitates 1 Low fluid level 2 Depleted fluid frictional properties 3 Poor cold-temperature fluidity
Why does the transmission of my car hesitate?
Here are a few common reasons why your transmission may shift erratically, jerk or hesitate. There’s an old adage when troubleshooting: start with the least expensive and simplest fix. In this case, check the transmission fluid level first. Low fluid can prevent the transmission from shifting properly.
What causes a lawn tractor to jump in gear?
Your transaxle houses both the transmission and the differential in the same unit. It is designed to transmit power in forward and reverse, and transmit power to the drive wheels. A worn gear in this unit can cause your lawn tractor to jump in gear.

When does your F10 have hesitation or jerks?

I’ve been suffering from this hesitation and jerking problem since I got my F10 three months ago. Well, today i stumbled upon a solution in this thread below.
What happens when you shift from 1st to 2nd gear?
Intermittent shifting harshness. Typically at slow speeds (<25 mph)when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. One time, fairly violent shuddering of automatic transmission when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear: after fast acceleration to 50 mph, then deceleration, then violent shuddering from 3rd gear to 2nd gear.
