What is Baloo Scout training?
BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. It’s the introductory training Cub Scout leaders should complete before taking Cub Scouts on an overnight camping trip. Recent updates to this two-part course make the content more impactful, useful and convenient.
What happens at Baloo training?
The training will include instruction on camp setup, cooking, sanitation, camping equipment selection, knife safety, fire safety, and using wood tools safely. The food for the students to cook on Saturday (lunch and dinner) and the means to cook it will be provided.
What is Iols training?
The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and Varsity Coach Position-Specific Training, and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.
Who is Baloo in Cub Scouts?
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) is a 1.5 day introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for units interested in offering a camping component to their Pack activities.
How do I get Baloo certified?
BALOO Training is made up of two parts: an online course available on My.Scouting.org, and an in-person, hands-on course. You must complete both parts to qualify as a trained outdoor Cub Scout leader. The hands-on course involves camping overnight (after all, that’s what the course is about – camping).
What should I bring to Baloo training?
The key point of BALOO training is “Keep It Simple.” Remember, the overnight is an entry-level outdoor experience for the first-time Cub Scout camper. All arrangements — sleeping, cooking, and program — should be geared to Cub Scout-age boys. Things to bring: Yourself and your camping gear, including eating utensils.
Who needs Iols training?
IOLS is one of two training courses needed for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters to qualify as trained leaders. The other required course is Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training (SPST).
Does Iols expire?
IOLs have been around since the late 1940s and were the first devices to be implanted in the body. Unlike natural lenses, IOLs do not break down over a person’s lifetime and do not need to be replaced.
