only sure way to know if reeds are bad is to take them out and visually inspect for cracks or missing pieces. a good way to check for carb leaks or boot leaks is while motor is running spray carb cleaner around reed cage, boot, and carb body and if it affects the way the motor runs then you have found your leak.
