Does coolant go through the cylinder head?
Coolant either leaks past the head gasket out of the engine or past the head gasket into the cylinder and combustion chamber. If you have an external leak you will notice coolant leaking from in between your engine block and the head.
How do I know if the head gasket has gone?
Bad head gasket symptoms
- White smoke coming from the tailpipe.
- BUBBLING IN THE RADIATOR AND COOLANT RESERVOIR.
- unexplained coolant loss with no leaks.
- Milky white coloration in the oil.

Where are mofoco performance VW cylinder heads cast?
All of Mofoco’s heads are cast at ECK Industries in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Brand new replacement heads. These heads meet stock spec, and are built on brand new castings. A great option if you would like stock heads, but don’t want to go the rebuilt route. VW Original Equipment Mofoco refurbished heads.
Do you need machining for a slip in VW engine?
“Slip in” sets do not require any machining, since they use the stock VW case and head hole sizes and increase piston size by “thinning” the walls of the cylinder. 36-40 HP engines are small, and you should not attempt to build a performance engine from these starting points.
Is the aircooled VW performance engine removable?
Once you have familiarized yourself with and upgraded your ride with these, you will be ready to apply more advanced and extensive performance oriented engine modifications. The aircooled VW engine uses cylinder sets that are removable; they are not cast into the block like most engines. This makes them fairly easy to replace.
