How do you open the fuel door on a VW Polo?
Our Polo petrol filling flap is simply a push to unlatch, then it swings open to reveal the screw in filler cap. It will not open if the car is locked! As davey has said, there is usually some sort of manual release, hidden in the boot trim/liner to enable the flap to be released.

When I shut her down say at the diesel pump I have to make sure I push the un-lock button on the drivers door or on the FOB before I push the fuel door in to unlatch it. Suggestion, Look at the black plunger on the left center with fuel door open. Is the plunger all the way in ? If it is. Push the plunger and see if it pops out.

Push the plunger and see if it pops out. If it does then close fuel door and lock all doors with the FOB. Then push in fuel door to see if it’s locked. If yes, Yippy !! Just out of curiosity, I checked my 2012 JSW, and the fuel door does lock if the doors are locked. I realize we drive different cars, but your observation made me curious.
