Why does my VW get stuck in gear?
This is a gearbox removal and stripping job, but with the reliability of the VW gearboxes is the least likely. (Turning the engine off can in a lot cases make in easier to come out of gear. When you are in neutral just start up and carry on.) My first guess would be that the clutch isn’t decoupling properly.
Is there a problem with the T4 Transporter gearbox?
Common problem on the 2.4/2.5 T4 boxes, mine has a full rebuild in 2007 becuase of a similar problem, now I’ve lost synchro on second. I don’t think its a very strong box. Current driving a T25 Doka Fire Bus and a Porsche Cayman. Don’t ask about previous cars – there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 150!
When did my car start having problems getting out of reverse?
A couple months ago, it started having intermittent problems getting out of reverse. It never has any problems getting into or out of any other gears.

Reverse gears – (lime green) located in the differential half of the case, are a set of 3 gears (the extra gear is required to reverse the motion of the mainshaft). Similar ratio to 1st gear. How to remove a gearbox from a VW T4 02G?
The easiest way to remove this (as I read on the net) is to wind in 2 or 3 m10 bolts into the holes. They will push on the outside of the case and draw the shaft out. Bolts need to be over 80mm long and all thread. I used 3 bolts to even it out a bit. Took a bit of force on the bolts but it worked slowly.
