Why does my Volkswagen Jetta turn over but wont start?

I have a 96 Jetta. It turns over but wont start. I changed alternator and stater. Don’t know i found out my car does not have one. Right now the battery is completely dead but im going to charge it today. I have no idea whta is wrong hoping it isnt something electrical but Does anyoe know what the problem can be?
