Does transmission control shifting?
Before you diagnose problems with a part of your vehicle, it’s important to understand what it is and what it does. A transmission control module is an electronic mechanism that collects data and processes signals within your transmission in order to regulate the transmission’s gear shifting.
What is a shift control system?
A gear shift control system for a motor vehicle in which a micro-computer is fed signals representative of the output speed of the transmission and the selected gear position. This information allows the computer to recognize when the engine speed is within an optimum range.
Why does my transmisson does not shift?
A faulty PCM (powertrain control module) will affect the transmission performance because it controls the gearbox mechanism in most car models. The PCM will have no input if the speed sensor fails. In that case, the transmission will not shift properly. To solve this problem, you have to check the speedometer to see that it is functioning.
Is the shifter on an automatic connected to the transmission?
A number of current and late model vehicles use cables to link the shifter handle to the transmission. Vehicles with automatic transmission typically have one transmission cable, while vehicles equipped with manual transmissions typically have two shifter cables. The concept of what the shifter cable does is the same regardless of the type of transmission your vehicle is equipped with – the symptoms, on the other hand, are completely different.
What is SHIFTRONIC manual shift mode?
SHIFTRONIC is a unique transmission system which is available on the Hyundai Elantra. This transmission system allows the driver to override the automatic transmission and manually shift gears to gain more control over the car’s performance. Once a driver is in the SHIFTRONIC mode, he can up shift and down shift as he would with a standard transmission, but the onboard computer will prevent the engine from over-revving or stalling out.
What is a transmission shift sensor?
Transmission sensors tell the vehicle when to shift and whether to shift up or down. If the vehicle is not receiving proper shifting information from the transmission sensor, then it may not shift. A vehicle that seems to be stuck in one gear may have a malfunctioning transmission sensor.
