Is there a way to fix my Jettas cluster?
My 98 Jettas odometer and clock went blank I checked the wires and grounds and they are all ok everything else works but the 2 lcds. I had a extra from a gas jetta plug it in and it works so there has to be something with the cluster. A3clusters on VWVortex is the recognized expert on repairing MK3 cluster issues… have a very good rep.
What to do if your Jetta a / C is not working?
Disconnect the 14-pin connector. Using a fused 12-volt jumper, apply power to pin T14/10 (green/black). The compressor clutch should engage. If the compressor does not engage, check for wiring harness open circuit or loss of ground at the compressor.

Is it bad to replace an instrument cluster?
I have tried this route already and have been burned multiple times. The bad part about it is you may start to second guess your diagnosis and re-check your troubleshoot path to make sure your not over looking something stupid after replacing the cluster with a used one that has the same problem.
