What causes a fault in the injector solenoid?
Typically, faults with the injector solenoid occur when the engine is warmed up and/or when the engine is under vibration (heavy loads). These engines have Electronic Unit Injectors (EUI) that are mechanically actuated and electronically controlled. The ECM sends a pulse to each injector solenoid.
What are the torque specifications for a car?
The specified amount will normally be in 30° increments. Turns of 120° or 180° are preferred. Turns of 120° or 180° are easily measured by the points of the hex head of the fastener. Lubrication may be specified in order to reduce the effort that is required for the final turn.
What do you need to know about caterpillar injector test?
The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) includes the following tests that aid in troubleshooting the injector solenoids: “Cylinder Cutout Test” All active diagnostic codes must be repaired before running the “Cylinder Cutout Test”. Use the “Cylinder Cutout Test” to diagnose a malfunctioning injector while the engine is running.
Can a 3-5 cylinder engine have a low injector code?
The engine may experience low power. 3-5 Cylinder #3 Injector : Current Below Normal The ECM detects current below normal. The code is logged. If equipped, the warning light will illuminate. The ECM will continue to attempt to operate the injector after the code has been logged. The engine may misfire.
What causes a fuel injector to stop working?
Over time the nozzle of the injector can become dirty and partially blocked. When you shut off your engine the injector will, soak up the heat of the engine. This causes any fuel left in the injector to evaporate, leaving behind hard deposits, inside the injector. Over time, these will eventually block the injector.
Where does the ECM send the pulse to the solenoid?
The ECM sends a pulse to each injector solenoid. The pulse is sent at the correct time and at the correct duration for a given engine load and speed. The solenoid is mounted on top of the fuel injector body. If an open circuit is detected in the solenoid circuit, a diagnostic code is generated. The ECM continues to try to fire the injector.
