How does a HEUI engine work?
Instead of a conventional injection pump, HEUI systems use a high-pressure oil pump. The injection pressure regulator (controlled by the PCM) is responsible for creating injection pressures in a range of 450 to 3,000 psi on 7.3L engines, and 450 to 3,600 psi on 6.0L Power Strokes.
What is a HEUI system?
It’s called HEUI and it stands for hydraulically activated electronically controlled unit injector. An interesting yet complicated injection system that functions by using pressurized engine oil to fire its fuel injectors, HEUI is the perpetual underdog in diesel performance.
What does an HPOP do?
The HPOP delivers high pressure oil that is used to activate the injectors. This is where the term HEUI (hydraulic electronic unit injectors) comes from. In the 7.3L Power Stroke, oil is delivered to the HPOP from the engine’s oil pump located in the front cover. The fuel then enters a chamber in each injector.
Why are my cat C7 HEUI pumps not working?
The CAT C7 engine has two different types of valves. If either of them gets damaged then the pumps will start to have problems. If you notice that the IAPCV valves have become faulty. Then they can easily be repaired through a simple service. The repairing process for them is really simple to follow around.
What do you need to know about the HEUI system?
3. Run a Quality Oil. The oil in a HEUI injection system works harder than any other engine oil in the world. Not only is it pressurized between 500 psi and 3,600 psi in the high-pressure circuit, but it is additionally responsible for lubricating and cooling the rest of the engine.
How does the HEUI fuel injection system work?
An interesting yet complicated injection system that functions by using pressurized engine oil to fire its fuel injectors, HEUI is the perpetual underdog in diesel performance.
Is the HEUI still used in Caterpillar engines?
Although HEUI would still technically be employed in later engines (the 6.0L Power Stroke, Navistar VT365 and MaxxForce DT), due to these engines using injection system components from Sturman Industries (and Caterpillar owning the term HEUI), you’ll find that the HEUI acronym doesn’t exist in any engine literature.
