What does white smoke mean on a diesel tractor?
A plume of white smoke is generally most noticeable at diesel startup, particularly when it’s cold. This is due to the fact that colder air, which is more dense than warm air, lowers temperatures in engine cylinders at the end of the compression stroke. These unburned fuel droplets are exhausted as a white smoke.
Is white smoke from diesel exhaust bad?
White smoke coming from the exhaust usually points to one point of failure: the injectors. Usually, white smoke indicates that the diesel fuel is not burning correctly. Unburned diesel fuel will make its way through the exhaust completely unused. Be careful of white smoke as it will irritate your eyes and skin.
Why does my 855 Cummins engine smoke white?
Pull the injector, pressurize the cooling system, drop the borescope down the copper injector cup and take a look around. These engines always did smoke white when cold due to fixed timing. Did you swap injectors to a different hole to see of it is a bad injector or a bad hole?
What did the head gaskets look like on my 855 Cummins?
The three head gaskets looked ok not blown through. sent heads out supposedly pressure tested one was leaking through the injector seat, had all six changed, heads surfaced and rebuilt valve job, valve guides etc. I put the engine back together and set injectors and valve lash.
What causes white smoke from a fuel pump?
Continuous “light” white smoke 1 A clogged fuel filter 2 Low pressure in the fuel pump (Air in the fuel) 3 Faulty or damaged injectors 4 Incorrect injection timing (Worn timing gear or damaged crankshaft keyway). 5 Low cylinder compression (caused by leaking or broken valves, piston ring sticking, cylinder ring wear, or cylinder glaze)
What makes a PT Cummins blow white smoke?
Low compression ratio coupled with late static timing . Most PT cummins especially the higher HP small cams blow white smoke until they are warm . also check for sticky rockers on the wet cylinders. you will need a book to put it back together,:drinkup injector setting is kind of fun . Thanks for the info.
