When did Cummins start making the ISX engine?
Cummins has been producing the ISX engine since it replaced the N14 in 2001. In those years, many improvements have been made to the designs of both the pistons and the cylinder liners. Below are summaries of the updates to the designs of those two parts.
How big is the cylinder liner on an ISX engine?
The earliest cylinder liner is 150mm in diameter and has a deep groove at the top of the liner. This is the only design that has that groove. No other grooves exist on the cylinder liner. The liner is called flat top because there is no groove at the top of the liner. The diameter can be either 150mm or 152mm.
What kind of SCR does Cummins ISX cummings use?
The ventilated exhaust lowers the combustion chamber temperature. The ISX Cummings started featuring the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system in 2006. It injects urea, which is an active element in diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), into the exhaust.
Which is the most common ISX failure in a Cummins?
The turbocharger is one of the most notorious ISX failures and is expensive to fix. While they are ideal for direct throttle response, VGTs often experience a buildup of carbon, soot, rust and other contaminants.
What is the CPL number for Cummins ISX overhaul?

Is the piston and liner of an ISX engine the same?
The window is still closed, and the distance between the top piston ring and the piston face is the same at 11mm. Just like with the pistons, all six cylinder liners must be the same type, otherwise potentially catastrophic things could happen to your engine.
Is the ISX Cummins 2250 a good engine?
The CM-871 used a second cam to run the injectors, the 2250 and 2350 use a Bosch high pressure system I believe utilizing a 3 head pump on the 2250, and a two head pump on the 2350. These pumps will fail at around 400,000 miles, if not sooner. When they fail, if not caught in time, will destroy the motor.
Is the Shim still integrated in the liner?
The shim is no longer integrated into the liner, and the diameter bounces back up to 152mm. The double groove still appears at the bottom of the liner. A carbon scraper ring is still present. Are your liners the source of failure in your engine?
