When does my Cascadia DD15 lose fuel pressure?
Discussion in ‘ Freightliner Forum ‘ started by sandman608, Mar 30, 2014 . I have a 2011 Cascadia DD15 with 312,000 miles recently when I shut it of it will lose fuel pressure after about 15 – 20 min. It does not have a check engine light so Freightliner in Madison WI cant figure out whats wrong.

The fuel system has been replaced with the injectors due to metal in the fuel system. It was performed by another shop. The customer said he spent $8000. Now the truck looses prime when shutdown. I have replaced the supply line from the tank to the pump. The truck still has the same problem. Looses prime and hard to start.

Losing prime in the DD series of engines can be related to a few things, most likely an air leak in the system allowing the fuel to drain back to the tanks causing hard start. The hard part is finding the leak.

After you prime it out it runs fine. Any idea on what would cause this problem Im new to the DD15s. Thanks! also check the checkvalve in the davco filter if it has one. if the spring is broke and not closing off the line, that will cause a loss of fuel prime and hard start condition
What should fuel pressure be on a Cascadia?
The pressure should read steady at 70psi. If it bleeds down over the next few minutes (20), you have a leak on the engine side fuel system. Two things can happen….if the pressure bleeds down to ~60psi and STOPS, you have high pressure fuel side leak. If it continues to leak down below 60psi, you have a low pressure side leak.

How to check fuel pressure in DD15 engine?
Use DDDL to monitor quantity control valve current while cranking engine. If the current measures greater than 2800 mA, check for a short to power between pin 1 of the quantity control valve and pin 1 of the 120–pin MCM connector. Crank engine for 20 seconds and monitor “LPP Outlet” pressure. Refer to “Low Pressure Fuel System Pressures”.

This is a loss of communication or datalink from the MCM or in other words the engine control module. This can be cause by a loss of power or ground to the MCM or a possible wiring harness issue or failed MCM. Check all your fuses and relays. Test for power on both sides with the ignition switch on for your fuses.
