What causes a foot valve to leak?
The leaks at foot valve exhaust ports are very often caused by a feed-back of pressure coming from control port 42 of the Trailer control valve. This is due to the collapse of the centre seal in the spring brake booster that separates the air pressure in the rear spring chamber from that of the service chamber.
What does a foot brake valve do?
What is a foot brake valve? Release of the foot valve stops the flow of application air. The relay portions of the valves return to their original positions, stopping the flow of air pressure. The exhaust ports of the valves exhaust air pressure from the brake chambers, releasing the brakes.
How do you know if you have a leaky foot valve?
It should hold the pressure for longer than an hour without cycling. If the pressure holds, your pipe and check-valve are not the problem. Check for leaks between the well and the house. If the pressure doesn’t hold, the leak is in the well.
Can a foot valve get clogged?
A clogged foot valve could be reducing the rate at which the pump can pick up water from the lake. A worn, damaged, or debris-blocked impeller in the pump itself could be the trouble as could an air leak at the pump (do you see bubbles in the output water?)
What happens when a foot valve goes bad?
A common cause is a failed check valve. The check valve or foot valve prevents the well pressure tank from sending water back down into the well after it has built up with water pressure. If the valve fails, water streams back down the well, and the pressure switch turns the pump on again.
Where is the air leaking from the foot valve?
I pulled the service side lines off the rear brake cans and got no backflow out of them. With the engine stopped, park brake set, and service brakes not applied, it was still leaking from the foot valve exhaust port.
What does it mean when your air brake is leaking?
With the introduction of spring brakes, anti-compounding and 121 air brake systems, because a valve is leaking air out of its exhaust, does not mean the valve is at fault. If a spring brake is leaking from the the spring brake to the service brake side, that air will travel back up the service line and out the exhaust of the next valve back.
