Why does my 1999 IH dt466e keep dying?
I have a 1999 IH DT466E that will not stay running. It will start right up and then run from anywhere from 30 secs. to several minutes. It then dies, but will start back up and do the same thing. I have replaced the fuel filter on the drivers side, and the high pressure oil pump is also new last fall.

We got couple of 05 International truck that has VGT problem. Code 152 (BAP signal out of range low). 354 (VGT control under duty cycle) and Body Controller – Remote Engine Speed Control #1 – Analog input #2 shorted to ground. Already replace BAP sensor, MAP sensor and VGT turbo.
Where is the HPOP on a 1999 dt466e?
On the left side of the engine mounted on the back side of the front cover is the high pressure oil pump. Its also right above the air compressor ( if equipped) or ps pump. On the hpop there is a valve near the bottom of it.
Where is the ICP sensor on the dt466e?
The ICP sensor is a three wire sensor located on the fuel/hp oil rail on the left side of the head. Its just about in the center of the rail just to the right of the hose from the hpop. Bad cam sensor or the positive wire (battery feed) on the key switch is burnt and loosing connection. Would be my first guess.
Are there any issues with the 2000 dt466e?
Walkerv thanks for the heads up on the injectors. It’s not noticeable on cold start. It runs perfect thru all rpms until it gets to 180. TVA it starts fine either way. I was running it last night to get it to temperature, it seems to idle ok after 180 degrees.
Why does my DT466 diesel engine not start?
It was blowing Fuse 30 and that Fuse services the Diesel Fuel heater, Waste-gate Solenoid, and the Injector Driver Module Relay coil , PCM relay coil. I’m betting yours is something similar.
Why is my 2000 dt466e losing coolant?
If cooling wasn’t holding pressure it’s either A leaking externally outside the engine or B going into the engine which would show up in oil or you would smell it coming out the exhaust and he said he doesn’t see anything in the oil. Plus would be losing coolant too. It’s not losing coolant and the oil i drained out was good.
Is the dt466e a lack of power?
The second you put it in gear it has no power. 20 mph top speed. Tested fuel pressure today at the filter. It is only reading 40 lbs at idle and it dips down to 34 or so when accelerating. I assume this is a fuel problem, but what is the problem and where do we start? Thanks in advance if anyone has done this one.
Can a 2005 International shut off while driving?
I have a 2005 International with a DT466. The issue I’m having is without warning, while driving down the road the truck will lose power and then shut off. No engine light comes on, no codes in the Dash changed the fuel filter checked the fuses in the battery box, Checked the relays underneath the hood and replaced the camshaft sensor.

I have a 2004 4300 international dt466 it cranks but no start. I have changed all sensors still nothing check fuel pressure injector orings im stuck. Engine position sensor shows up when u put computer on it. Where should I check for a broken wire maybe? Plug to sensor has power and sensor is good.

Replaced injector, put new orings on hipop. It will not start. Runs on ether but dies as soon as ether stops. Replaced both batteries. Checked fuses by batteries. All good. We pulled the ipr and bench tested it. It was working. Scanner says 8 engine codes. They are: FMI=4 VOLTAGE BELOW NORMAL OR SHORTED TO LOW SOURCE.

What should fuel psi be on dt466e International diesel?
Usually when we get no start cold but fires and runs after using ether it might be injectors, but you need to do the fuel checks I posted and let me know. If you don’t have a fuel psi gauge, autozone loans them out. I like to have around 60psi I have seen them run ok above 45psi.

Does the tach read while you are cranking? Can you use the hand primer on the filter base to try and prime system, if it does not get hard to pump you are most likely sucking air.

Is the DT466 truck getting hard to start?
I have had a small problem with it before, usually first thing in the AM. But now it doesn’t want to start no matter what time of the day it is. If its been sitting for any length of time it cranks and will finally start after about 45 seconds. There is nothing else wrong with this truck, this is the only problem it is giving me now.

The clutch is fine, just got adjusted about a month ago, no smoke, just low power. Air filter is clean. Oil pressure is good. Temp was fine. No lights came on. The turbo isn’t really as noticeable in sound, but I can still hear it.

Since it’s a mechanical DT466 (not an E), many of those had a Bosch injection pump with an aneroid valve and a wastegate valve on turbo, both activated by turbo boost pressure from intake. I have seen diaphram go bad on wastegate valve pot which causes the aneroid valve to not get pressure to turn up fuel when under load.

You will see the pressure relief ball. It may be partially unseated by debris causing a drop in fuel pressure. Anyway, you will notice a compuchek fitting on the top of the filter housing cap. You plug in a fuel pressure gauge here to test your fuel pressure. Need 20 psi to start, 65 psi is normal running pressure.

The truck will crank and accelerate great, then it begins smoking and goes into a limp mode with little pedal reaction. If you raise the rpm’s the smoke goes from whitish grey to dark almost black, but only when you raise the rpm’s.

I have a 2003 International 4300 with a DT466. I just had all the O-rings on the injectors replaced along with the wiring harness that goes to the injectors. Now once the truck gets up to running temp it starts to sputter/miss. Truck runs GREAT cold but once warm gets worse.
