What does soot level high mean?
diesel particulate filter warning light
When the diesel particulate filter warning light turns on it means that the soot level from the diesel exhaust is high and your vehicle is likely to go into limp mode. This is accomplished by raising the temperature in the exhaust to a level which burns the soot, reducing it to ash.
Why does my truck Regen so often?
Your DPF regenerates because of excessive exhaust soot overwhelming the DPF. Exhaust soot is the product of incomplete combustion, the soot is actually partially burned fuel. There is only one answer to excessive DPF Regeneration: Eliminate or dramatically reduce diesel particulate matter (soot).
Why does my DPF light keep coming on?
The most common reason for a DPF warning light to appear is because of a blocked DPF. A failed exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, problems with exhaust and injection systems and faulty glow plugs can all, in turn, affect the DPF and cause the DPF warning light to illuminate.
Which of these conditions could cause a DPF to fill with soot?
Turbo failure – oil passes through turbo seals into the exhaust housing and the burnt oily residue enters the DPF, causing excessive dense soot loading.
Can I stop a regen?
To Cancel a Parked Regeneration hold the DPF Switch to the ON position for five (5) seconds and release. A Parked Regeneration will stop if the key is turned to the off position, the truck is put into gear or the parking brake is released. The regeneration will take approximately 20-40 min.
How do I fix my Diesel Particulate Filter warning?
If you get a warning light showing that the filter’s blocked, it should be possible to complete an active regeneration cycle and clear the warning light by driving for 10 minutes or so at speeds over 40mph.
Why is my fault code soot level very high?
Fault code Soot level very high is past the point of a driver being able to regen using the switches. This will have to be done with DDDL software. You could have fuel or air problems causing the truck not to complete a regen.
Can you throw a code for high soot?
No actually you won’t throw a code for high soot until 200%. Unless the dpf delta p registers a pressure issue. I don’t know why but Volvo thought it would be great to show 200% as actually being 100% face plugged. Think of it like alcohol, where 100 proof is actually 50%.
When to run a truck with high soot level?
Run your truck. 80% isn’t a reason to yank the dpf and clean it. If the aftertreatment system is functioning properly passive regens will happen and you might not even know it unless the high exhaust temp light comes on. If the soot level gets high enough it should call for a parked regen.
How long does it take to reset the soot level?
It will throw codes in progression, soot level high least severe level, soot level high moderate level, soot level high critically high most severe. Then you get a 120 minute derate message, if not addressed you get a 30 minute derate message with torque reduction then a 5 mph derate.
