How do I know if my lift pump is bad?
First sign of a bad lift pump is if you have trouble getting fuel back to the engine after changing the fuel filter. The CTD will still run with a bad lift pump but will be very hard to restart if you ever loose prime. You can also check the fuel presure at the rear of the filter, it should be about 15 psi.
Does a lift pump run all the time?
Lift pump run time is controled by the ECM. It runs for a predetermined time (approx 1 sec. on my truck) then shuts off. When you ‘bump’ the starter without starting, the ECM will let the pump run 15-30sec.
How do you prime a Cummins ISX?
The ISX has an electric primer pump on the filter housing that is ECM controlled. All you do, is lube the gasket and spin the filter on (do NOT prefill). Turn the key to the “run” position till you hear the pump load down (10-20 seconds or so). Continue to let it run for another 5 seconds, then try to start the engine.
How long do lift pumps last?
Effluent pumps are often called ‘lift pumps’, and they sit inside the septic tank chamber where they pump greywater to the leach field. Effluent pumps are durable and can last upwards of 10-15 years if they are maintained properly.
Is a lift pump the same as a fuel pump?
On gasoline-powered vehicles, the low-pressure fuel pump is simply referred to as a fuel pump. But with diesel applications, the low-pressure fuel pump is typically referred to as a lift pump or transfer pump to differentiate it from the high-pressure injection pump.
How much fuel pressure should a Cummins ISX have?
All Cummins ISX engines have the XPI common-rail injection system, which uses a crankshaft-driven pump to keep the fuel rail – seen of the left side of this 11.9L ISX – pressurized to more than 30,000 psi, providing full injection pressure to solenoid-activated injection nozzles in the head.

Can a diesel run without a lift pump?
Either way, a lift pump is required to make anything over *500 RWHP with your LML. The reality is that the pump simply can’t keep up without a lift pump if you want more power than that. Lift pumps are nothing new to diesel performance. Older Duramax models came equipped with a Cp3 high pressure fuel pump.
