What does jumping the solenoid do on a Freightliner Cascadia?
It just allows the engine starter to crank over but for the engine to run the engine ECM needs power and ground, fuel, engine RPM and speed signal, along with the air/fuel/ compression/etc basics. Jumping the solenoid just bypasses a faulty solenoid. Test for power to the small S terminal at the solenoid while in the cranking position.

Why does my Freightliner chassis have no power?
If no voltage shows you got bad ground, if you got voltage trace positive battery cables until you find the broken circuit. If both house batteries and chassis batteries are not giving voltage, it sounds like main ground broke loose. Easy way to check is voltmeter from positive battery terminal to frame.

What causes a Freightliner starter to go out?
I’ve seen many starting problems especially on freightliners caused by the starter to frame ground not getting good contact at the frame. I currently run a 2007 Columbia. About two months ago, it was in the ( Ryder) shop for its own problems. They loaned us a 2012 Frieghtliner of some sort. We had it a few days & the starter went out.
