Is the Toyota Sienna a good car to drive?
However, in Car & Driver tests, Sienna was still the 2nd most quiet van at cruising speeds. Toyota added sound insulation to the firewall and under the doors to compensate somewhat for the timing chains. Timing belts have a change interval, chains don’t, so the 2GR is also lower maintenance. Here’s a pic of the extra insulation from Toyota.
What kind of noise does a Toyota Sienna make?
At idle, a low frequency rumble is heard (similar to a motor bike running but not as pronounced) and vibration in the front seats is felt. When accelerating, the seat vibration is fairly strong at about 1300rpm and the engine also exhibits a resonating harmonic sound.
What kind of engine does Toyota Sienna have?
The 07+ Siennas have the 2GR 3.5l engine with a timing chain. There’s no belt to change, but the trade-off is more reciprocating mass and more noise. Toyota did add some insulation to the firewall and to the door sills to compensate.
What’s the difference between Toyota Sienna 2GR and 3MZ?
The 2GR V6 uses a timing chain, so it is indeed noiser than the 3.3l V6 predecessor (called 3MZ). Fair enough to get 266hp instead of 215hp. However, in Car & Driver tests, Sienna was still the 2nd most quiet van at cruising speeds.
