Why does my engine stall when I turn it on?
Stalling problems trace back to three primary causes: a lack of fuel, not receiving enough air, or insufficient power. Common reasons include an empty gas tank, a faulty fuel pump, a bad ignition coil, fouled spark plugs, water in the fuel, or a failing sensor. An engine stall is never fun.
Would a faulty fan damage your engine?
Engine overheating: A bad radiator fan can cause the engine to overheat, especially at low speeds. If your car starts overheating, pull off the road as quickly as you safely can and turn off the engine. An overheated engine can quickly get ruined and lead to expensive repair bills.
Should engine fan always be on?
An electric fan SHOULD NOT run all the time. A mechanical fan WILL spin as long as the engine is running, but it will only ‘lock up’ when needed. To avoid a further rise of temperature, the fan induces air flow. The fan turning on is normal and a consequence of the hot coolant, not a cause.
What happens if fan motor fails?
If the cooling fan motors fail, and disable the fans, the engine temperature will continue to climb until the engine overheats. Engine overheating, however, can also be caused by a wide variety of other problems, so having the vehicle properly diagnosed is highly recommended.
