What is an SRS module?
An SRS airbag module, also known as the airbag electronic crash unit, controls the airbag’s deployment, stores crash data and exchanges information with the car’s engine. If your airbags have deployed in an accident before, or if your airbag light is on, you will need your SRS airbag control module reset.
Does a new airbag module need to be programmed?
When you buy a new control module, most of the time it will need to be additionally programmed /coded to the car to inlcude the VIN and the configuration. The most common reasons why the airbag light is on besides the obvious—if the car was in an accident—are clockspring and under-seat wiring (70% of the time).
Can you reuse impact sensors?
Do I have to replace my front impact sensors? It all depends on the severity of the accident. However, in most cases, the front impact sensors are reusable unless they have been physically damaged or the wire leading to it has been crimped by metal. However, in most cases, the impact sensors can be reused.
Can you drive without SRS module?
The main reason why it is unsafe to drive without an SRS airbag module installed is that a car’s airbags will not work without them. Without airbags deploying, a driver and any passengers can face severe injury or even death.
How are impact sensors connected to the airbag control module?
The sensors communicate with the SDM (the main airbag control module) via a DATABUS. Its computer talk….NOT a “just complete the circuit” thing.
Where is the seat belt sensor in a car?

Where is the impact sensor on a GMC?
Come to find out the sensor is a right rear (side) impact sensor and it’s in the back door. Obviously the service writer had no clue what he was talking about so I decided to order the part and swap it myself.
