How does a hood sensor work?
The hood sensor is a simple electrical switch. When the hood is closed, the switch is open. When the hood is open, the switch is closed and a warning is illuminated on the dash. If the hood sensor is not working properly, the alarm can go off when you are driving or the car may not detect when the hood is open.

When the fan on your range hood stops working, the two most common problems are a broken on and off switch and a burned out fan motor. If there is continuity then the switch is not defective, and the fan motor is likely your problem.
Where is the hood sensor plug on a Camry XLE?
I unplugged the hood latch sensor connector from the hood alarm socket. This socket is located right below the hood latch and you can see the connector/plug from the hood latch going in to the socket. The setup is such that the socket is on the left and the connector/plug is inserted from the right, when you are facing the front grill of the car.

I posted a link to the TSB below. This is the easiest and cheapest (free) way to permanently disable the false HOOD OPEN warning in a 2007 Camry XLE I4. It might also work for other Toyota models and model years if the hood-latch-with-sensor assembly is the same.

Can you replace the hood latch on a Toyota Camry XLE?
There is a TSB that addresses this issue. My 2010 Venza had the exact same problem, but on the Venza, you have to replace the entire hood latch assembly. On the Camry, you can just replace the switch in the hood latch. I posted a link to the TSB below.
