Why do my brake lights only work when braking?
When your brake lights don’t work, it is usually because of a blown fuse, a worn-out or broken brake light switch, or a burned-out light bulb. One or more lights don’t work (though at least one light works). None of the brake lights work. The brake lights stay on and refuse to go off.
When should brake lights come on?
The brake lights are activated by a mechanical switch on the brake pedal arm. They come on anytime the pedal is depressed. The actuation point can be changed by adjusting the switch mounting bracket.
Why does the rear brake light not activate?
When the rear brake light does not activate, we tend to think it’s the bulb. Sometimes that is not the case and Bob walks us through how to test a Harley Brake Light Switch to make sure that’s not the issue. We also show you how to replace the switch in the housing in this video and Bob reviews The Motorcycle Brake Light Switch here.
Is it dangerous to drive with brake lights not working?
Driving at night with either brake lights or tail lights not working is dangerous for you and other drivers on the road. It takes a long time to notice when the brake lights not working but tail lights are or vice versa. It is so because you won’t know what is happening in the backside while driving until someone points it out.
Where are the brake lights on my car?
You will get the fuse panel under the dashboard and the PDC under the hood. The brake light switch is also to be found under the dashboard and check if its plunger touches the brake pedal arm. Any problem with the fuse box and light switch will affect the brake lights.
Why are the brakes not applying when you push the pedal?
There will be a little free play in the linkages to the master cylinder/ brake fluid compressing in the brake lines so the brakes will not be applying until you push the pedal further any way. It reduces the risk of your brake lights flickering while driving if pedal is bumped. But I am not a mechanic.
