Why does my fuel pump start before I crank the engine?
This is normal as once you turn the ignition key before cranking the fuel pump is activated. It has to build up pressure before you crank the engine so it can start at a moments notice.
What happens when you change the fuel pump?
The car would run for about 30min before I changed the fuel pump, before it would die. So I figured the fuel pump was on its last leg. So if the car is running on starting fluid, it has spark. And if I can hear the fuel pump turn on, then I should be getting fluid.
Why does my fuel pump not prime with the key on?
Fuel pump doesn’t prime with key on. I’ve been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. My 01 Tiburon wouldn’t start the other day. It would crank, but wouldn’t fire. When I turn the key to the “on” position, the fuel pump doesn’t kick on.
Can a worn out fuel pump cause an engine to stall?
A worn-out fuel pump is prone to overheating when working for a prolonged time. When it does overheat, it can start to work intermittently causing an unstable fuel supply. This causes the engine to stall or, in more drastic cases, cut out completely.
What should I do if my fuel pump is not working?
A clicking noise can be heard from each injector when they are working properly. I would recommend having a technician from YourMechanic try to start your vehicle with starter fluid. This should give the engine enough fuel to run long enough to see if the injectors are working correctly.
Do you need to replace fuel filter when replacing fuel pump?
The fuel level sensor is a separate component attached to the fuel pump. This part does not always come with the fuel pump and sometimes is not interchangeable with aftermarket fuel pumps. Chevrolets have a common issue with fuel filters getting clogged. You always want to replace the fuel filter when replacing the fuel pump.
Can you verify you are getting spark after replacing fuel pump?
It may be a walboro but it is a 100% exact replacement, only way better so there should be no issues there. If you are sure you hear the fuel pump prime when the key is turned forward I would say you are not getting spark. Has a wire come loose? Can we verify you are getting spark?
