Why does my latch not work?
When a door latch doesn’t click into position, it usually means the latch and the strike plate are out of alignment. Tighten the hinge screws and then try adjusting the strike plate by loosening its screws and shifting it slightly. Repairs range from making minor latch adjustments to repositioning the door.
Why does my front door not latch?

Is it OK to use wd40 on door locks?

Why are the latches on my tailgate not latching?
VERY common. Its not sticking at the latches on the outside of the tailgate. Oil the crap out of the rivets behind the handle. Just be careful not to break the little plastic clips that lock in the rods that extend out to the latches. I will bet that the handle is rusted up. fix a lot of them with that issue
What to do if your door latch is damaged?
Try operating the damaged latch by pulling on the exterior handle of the door. If the latch operates, then the problem probably resides in the door striker. However, if the latch does not operate by pulling on the outside door handle but does operate by pulling on the inside door handle, then the handle rod inside the door may be damaged.
