Why does my Toyota Tundra only move forward in all gears?
Discussion in ‘ 1st Gen Tundras (2000-2006) ‘ started by BCRStealth, Apr 24, 2020 . Hey transmission gurus! 2001 SR5 4.7L 4×4. Anyone have any idea why my truck only moves forward in all gears. I can put it into any gear and rev up to about 1800 RPMs and it will move forward. Park takes about 200 RPMs.
Can a car go forward with no reverse?
No Reverse!! So I park my car in a parking space and go into a shop for a few minutes. I come back out, turn my car on, put it into reverse, and lightly step on the gas. The Engine revs, the car goes nowhere just like it is in neutral. So I shift into drive, go forward an inch. Drive is apparently fine.
Why is there no reverse on my Toyota?
Go in for about five minutes and come back out and still no reverse. I look under the hood, nothing obviously wrong from looking at things. So, I drive it to Toyota Service to get an estimate. The guy there checks the transmission fluid and notices it is dark and that it has specs in it. His prediction, a new transmission.

Why is my transmission leaking on my Toyota Tundra?
I found the transmission output seal was faulty and leaking fluid all over the underside of the truck, so i replaced it and pulled the pan to do a drain/fill and replace filter. No metal in the pan but fluid was a little dirty so i removed the valve body to clean it and clean the solenoids just to make sure they weren’t the cause of the slip.
Do you need to replace transmission cooler in Toyota Tundra?
With that much debris in your transmission it needs to be rebuilt and you need to replace the radiator and transmission cooler. There is probably debris in those also and not a good way to clean them and not worth the chance of contaminating a new transmission.
