Can a bad sliding door be replaced on a Toyota Sienna?
I know I can order a new 8501608011 Left Driver Power Sliding Door Linkage (power cable assembly) and I have seen a number of pretty good youtube videos on how to replace the bad one. So no problem, right? Oh, but here’s the kicker.
Where is the release actuator on a Sienna?
There’s a pulley system with a Sienna side door release actuator in the bottom corner of the door. (If you’re working on the right door, the pulley system is in the bottom right corner; on the left door, the pulley system is on the bottom left corner.) Remove all of the screws holding it in place. Slide-out the side door cable assembly.
Why is the side door cable on my Sienna not working?
Chances are it’s because the cable assembly is damaged. The Sienna side door cable is prone to fraying, snapping, and more. Have you determined that your cable assembly is damaged and it’s the reason your side door isn’t opening or closing? You can replace the cable assembly yourself even if you have limited mechanical skills.
Can a broken cable be replaced on a Toyota Sienna?
Replacement of your broken cable should be covered at no cost under a service campaign that covers repairs to the sliding doors for up to 10 years after the vehicle in-service date. The service campaign is the result of a class action suit which is the subject of previous threads on this forum. The local dealer flat out refused to do it.
When did the Toyota Sienna power door come out?
It is BO010-01, published Sept 9, 2002. The TSB specifies new ECUs for the offending door. The new ECUs are manufactured after May 6, 2002. They cost around $400 from a dealer, but can be bought from other Toyota parts suppliers online for under $300. Just make sure the one you get has a date of 5/6/02 or newer.
Where is the power switch on a Toyota Sienna?
The 2nd Generation power switch is located to the left of the steering wheel, on the lower portion of the dashboard near the driver’s left knee. You can conceivably turn the power “off” and use the door manually all of the time, or as needed.

The fob won’t open the lift gate, unlock passenger door or open right sliding door. Driver’s side door unlocks with fob and left sliding door opens with fob. Inside the car the overhead button for the right sliding door and rear lift gate beeps twice when pressed. Left sliding door open/closes with the overhead button.
