How does an aftermarket car alarm work?
An aftermarket alarm system simply connects to your dome light circuit and/or the little plunger/sensor that tells if your door is open. Thus if you do not use the fob to disarm it, it has no way to know whether the key was used to unlock the door or if it was broken into.
Why does my car alarm go off when I open the door?
Some vehicles do not integrate the key into the alarm system due to the design of the door. Some vehicles can be broken into using a “slim jim” tool that unlocks the door the same way a key does. So, if someone tries to break into your car using that tool, your alarm will still go off.
Can a car alarm be disarmed with a key?

Look at the switches on the cab where the door seals and see if any of the switched look damaged or at an angle. Most of the time the driver door switch fails for that door is used the most. Check each switch for power and see which door switch does not have power on the ground side when activating the switch. Replace the switch that does not work.
