The second time this happened the conditions were similar with the engine reving up to approximately 5000 rpm. In both cases the engine reved up after car was stopped at the end of a long continuous drive.

The overfill probably didn’t hurt anything. A gross overfill can cause the oil to get whipped into a foam, which of course doesn’t lubricate well or pump around well, but I don’t think you were that high. As others have stated or implied, if the level on the dipstick was just 1/4 of an inch above the “full” mark, nothing was harmed.
