Can you use 0W-20 mineral oil on a Toyota?
Vehicles in which 0w-20 is an option to 5w-20 mineral oil, (or 5w-30), will continue to require 5,000-mile/6-month oil change intervals, even if 0w-20 oil is used. In the case of vehicles with 10,000-mile oil change intervals, the 5,000-mile service interval has not been eliminated.
Is there a low oil shut off on a Toyota?
No, I don’t believe there is a low oil shut off. An easy way to find out is to add a couple of quarts of oil to bring the oil level up to normal. At that point the motor would run since the low oil condition was corrected. Most likely you have another problem. A broken timing belt is a pretty good guess. You likely have another issue.

What kind of oil does a Toyota Corolla use?
The only fully synthetic oil Mobil makes for Toyota is 0w20. Personaly, I only use 5w30 at 3k intervals in my base Matrix (55k), and my 96 Corolla (over 100k) with out any problems.
