Can you adjust Bilstein 5100 after they are installed?
The adjustable 5100 fronts have a groove in the shock where a ring sits in. Then your perch rests on top of that. Spring is then compressed on top of that. You will have to completely disassemble the shock then reinstall everything after changing the height setting.
Why are my new shocks so stiff?
For the first hundred or so miles after installing your new gear, the driver will notice that the suspension feels a little stiff and bouncy. This is normal and happens primarily for two reasons: First, a new set of shocks and struts needs to be broken in just like anything else.
Do new shocks take time to settle?
new springs or springs that were completely uncompressed can take some time to settle to their nearly permanent future ride height. shocks only go lower if they’re leaking =P.
Do I need alignment after changing struts?
Replacing those struts requires no alignment.
How do I make my shocks less stiff?
How to Soften Car Suspension
- Install softer shocks and struts. As the primary component that affects your vehicle’s ride quality, shocks and struts have a very big impact.
- Adjust the shocks to a softer setting, if you have adjustable shocks.
- Install softer springs.
- Replace the bushings in the suspension.
How do you know if your shocks are too stiff?
The car feels like it wallows. If the shock is too stiff, when a bump is encountered the tire contact patch can be pulled off the track surface, or at least the load on that tire is reduced significantly. This affects handling balance and jacks weight around the chassis, making the car feel unpredictable.
Does new suspension need to settle?
New Shocks Installed As you drive with them, the shocks will get broken in and become less stiffer and lower your ride height by a little. But if you also install new shocks, the shocks will take some time to settle.
Do you have to remove impact driver before installing shock absorbers?
Other fixings (e.g. clamps) have to be tightened before lowering the vehicle. Installing and removing the shock absorbers/suspension parts with an impact driver Removing and installing shock absorbers/suspension parts with an impact driver (also pliers on the piston rod/shock absorber tube) can damage the shock absorbers and create noise later on.
Why are my new shock absorbers going bad?
If your brand new shock absorbers are going bad repeatedly soon after installation, overlooking this minor detail is the most likely problem. This information applies to all 150cc Buggy, Kart, Scooter, and ATVs.
What happens when spring plate is set too high?
The shock absorber goes into the compression stop, has higher wear on the buffer and does not allow sufficient bump travel. (This also has to be considered for MOTs.) If the spring plate is set too high, the shock absorber goes into the rebound buffer and has too little rebound travel. There is a risk of the spring blocking.
When to tighten shock absorbers in rubber suspensions?
Only tighten struts and shock absorbers in rubber suspensions once the vehicle is back on the ground (K0 position). Other fixings (e.g. clamps) have to be tightened before lowering the vehicle.
