What is a hard cold start?
A common complaint, especially when temperature start to drop is, “My car runs poorly cold, or my car is hard to start cold”. This condition where the engine needs more fuel cold is called cold start enrichment. Enrichment meaning a higher ratio of fuel to air.
What could cause hard starting in a car?
Fouled Plugs: Spark plugs create the spark which allows the vehicle to burn fuel. Fouled plugs are one of the most common reasons for a hard starting engine. This can lead to prolonged cranking before the engine will start. Clogged Fuel Filter: A fuel filter that is clogged can make a vehicle very difficult to start.
What can make a car hard to start?

What to do if your Subaru Legacy won’t start?

Why is my Subaru Outback having trouble starting?
I love my Subaru Outback 2007 but recently its been having trouble starting in the morning either when it’s cold or the temperature has changed significantly overnight. I recently moved to Louisiana so we’re not talking extreme cold, just cold for here. 50/40 degree weather.
Why is my Subaru running slow when I turn the key?
Fuel injection is designed to hold fuel pressure while the car is parked and this allows an instant start when the key is turned. If pressure leaks off (leaking injector, fuel pressure regulator, or the more common fuel pump check valve) the engine will be slow to start and may run rough for a minute.
What happens to a Subaru when the temperature is low?
The engine apparently does not start and run on its own when the ambient temperature is low, but it does turn over. If you give the mechanic bogus information, he will go off on a wild goose chase that will result in much higher labor costs for you. Thanks for your help!
