2009 – Engine Swap Compatibility? Recently my Forester has started that dreaded engine death knock that I have been reading about and I have found out that I have a bad rod bearings in my 2009 Forester Limited 2.5X.

It’s like the car starts up normal (firing on all 4 cylinders perfectly fine), then the clunking sound happens within a half-second of starting it, then it IMMEDIATELY starts to misfire. It happens really fast (within a second to a second and a half of starting it).

I have looked up the cost of repair ($2900), replacement (used $1800-$2400, New $3200+-), or pulling a motor from a salvage yard ($220.00). So far what I have come to realize is that pulling a EJ25 block from a car in a salvage yard is a much better option for my wallet, as I don’t have the knowledge to completely rebuild the bottom end on my own.
Can a Subaru Forester be swapped for a Impreza?
Currently I’m swapping the Forester is wiring harness onto the ’09 Impreza engine, on further analysis of the two harnesses I did notice that the wiring pin locations are different between the two models, just slightly, and the only connector difference is the coil pack from what I can see.
