Power windows/locks are pretty solid these days, the motors and mechanisms have been engineered and tested extensively, to a pretty high number of cycles, before failure. The hatch mechanisms, not-so-much. I’d actually choose a “no power hatch” option, if there were such a thing, without hesitancy.

Completely dead battery can still open the rear hatch to get out the jumper cables. Not sure what happens with the powered lift gate in a dead battery condition and you can’t get to the inside release.

Why is the rear lift gate not latching?

But now it won’t latch (the car dash shows the rear lift gate is open) and none of the three buttons to operate the door will work (the key fob, the button on the door itself, and the button on the dash). I’ve tried holding various buttons down with no result.
