CEL + Traction control light steady + blinking/fading cruise control light in my 2012 Forester. Car was running fine otherwise. The very accomodating Subaru dealer in Waterloo, Iowa got us right in and followed the diagnostic steps the computer showed and found it required a software update.

Why is the engine warning light not on?
It might not be an ‘active’ code if the light’s not on at the time, but there should be a code history available with his reader and the last few faults should be visible. So perhaps a visit to the subaru people would be in order so they can have a look with a “proper” (as in subaru-specific) code reader.
