Is there a MAF meter on a Subaru Outback?
The ’00 Outbacks, at least the north american ones, don’t have a maf or air flow meter. I thought they were setup to understand throttle closed at like .5V from the TPS, rather that using some separate idle switch?
Where is the mass air flow sensor located?
The mass air flow sensor (MAF) is located inside the engine compartment and is used to measure the amount and temperature of air that is entering the engine at any one time.
Why is my MAF sensor not working properly?
If the MAF becomes dirty and is falsely indicating to the engine that the car is receiving very little air while at full throttle, then the computer will most likely kick back an error code. Vacuum leaks and other air leaks in the system can cause MAF sensor errors.
Can a vacuum leak cause a MAF error?
Vacuum leaks and other air leaks in the system can cause MAF sensor errors. If you have a crack or leak in your air intake downstream of the sensor, then the MAF will be sensing less air than the engine is actually receiving.
What is the mass air flow sensor on a Subaru Outback?
2001 Subaru Outback 2.5L 5 Speed Manual. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor measures the flowrate of air through the air intake before reaching the engine. Since the density of air changes with temperature and pressure (due to ambient temperature, altitude), the ECU needs this information to provide the correct fuel mass to the engine.
How does the mass air flow sensor work?
Enter your ride HERE to be a part of this month’s Outback of the Month Challenge! The Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor measures the flowrate of air through the air intake before reaching the engine.
How to clean the MAF sensor in a Subaru?
Disconnect the wiring harness, remove the two screws and carefully pull the MAF Sensor from the housing. Then, spray the MAF Sensor with the CRC. The hot wire (circled in blue below) is the important part you need to clean, but I usually just douse the entire piece with CRC to remove all particulates.
What are the symptoms of a dirty mass airflow sensor?
Symptoms of a dirty mass airflow sensor include rough idle, poor or jerky acceleration, and difficulty starting. This is a job that anyone with some mechanical confidence can perform in their driveway.
