What does a tumble generator valve do?
The intake of some Subaru models (including the Impreza WRX) includes tumble generator valves above the fuel injectors. When the engine is at idle, these valves close and bypass the incoming airflow through a passage to increase the swirl of the air/fuel mixture, resulting in an engine that operates more cleanly.
What is TGV WRX?
A TGV is a tumble generator valve. Essentially it’s a butterfly valve in the intake runners and it regulates airflow. Subaru engines (due to their layout) are very in efficient at low RPMs and in Japan the engineers were not able to meet emission standards. So they used the TGVs.
Why do a TGV delete?
The primary purpose of a TGV delete is to remove the divider bar and butterfly valve inside the TGV assembly to improve airflow to your engine. HP gain is 12 HP. This figure is highly debated as different manufacturers use different dynos with different cars with different levels of mods.
Does TGV delete increase HP?
The primary benefit of a TGV delete is the improved flow, which can unlock greater power output through tuning.
Do I need a tune after TGV delete?
TGV delete will also work without a tune but you will likely not be able to take advantage of the opened up power without a tune.
Where is the tumble generator valve on the TGV?
The tumble generator valves are on the intake (if you look at the intake manifold, and follow the passages down, the intake manifold connects to the TGV which connects to the heads – the sensors are on the back side of the TGV (side facing the firewall)) – being stuck closed is a bad thing…
Why is my tumble generator valve not working?
Well considering the sensors it’s missing, many are due to that and also depending on which code it is, they could be malfunctioning due to the lack of sensors. These are the codes: (There’s 10, sorry) ‘missing sensors’?????? Chiming in here to help… Second, I too had that same P1096 CEL code on my ’02 WRX.
Why does my check engine light Tumble Valve keep working?
Could it be the tgv butterfly is getting stuck from dirt and stuff and that’s why it worked again for a bit as it might of came free, maybe the motor is broke or the sensor has moved I don’t no so if any one has any idea what’s happening or wot it could be I would appreciate the feedback — Many Thanks
Is the light tumble valve on a Subaru TGV broken?
The valves themselves don’t break. The motors or the sensors on them do. Subaru doesn’t sell them separately from the TGV. I have a motor and sensor if your interested.

What was the cel code for my WRX tumble generator?
Second, I too had that same P1096 CEL code on my ’02 WRX. Long story short, I ended up gutting the entire OEM TGV system in favor of GrimmSpeed’s TGV deletes and a pro-tune.
