Why does the hatch not open on my Subaru Impreza?

You have to remove the lift gate plastics on the inside, wiper motor, 4 bolts holding the emblem plate and then 2 green clips that the only way to release all 4 prongs is to push a tube around it to compress all at once. One side is easy peasy.

I press the latch switch (Rear Gate Latch Switch on the wiring diagram). I guess this sends a signal to the “Keyless Entry Control Module” This would then send a signal to the “Rear Gate Lock Actuator” to open the latch. But it doesn’t.

The button opens the gate electrically. The white lever is directly opening the latch manually. My 07 Owners Manual has an almost identical instruction, and it definitely does not release the catch — all it does is unlock the mechanism so that the external handle will work.
