Why do I hear a ticking noise when I start my car?
One is the tick on startup that lasts for a few seconds until the oil is pumped back up top. Not much at all you can do about that expect experiment with different types of oil and oil filters. The other tick will also be on start up but it will last a lot longer (until the engine it warmed up). That is usually a broken manifold bolt.
Why does my cold start ticking noise go away?
Once in a while I get lifter clatter if I park downhill for extended periods but it only lasts a second or so then it’s gone. If yours goes away after it’s warm and it’s a new noise that increases with rpms I’d get the exhaust manifold bolts checked first off- that’s real common on these things.
Why does my Hemi engine make a ticking noise?
At first, it starts as a ticking noise and then it gets worse and worse until the engine starts to misfire on hard acceleration. You might even get P0300, and P0308 fault codes. At that point, the needle bearings on the lifters start to seize and the now stuck lifters start to eat away at the camshaft lobes.
When does the tick noise go away on a Dodge Ram?
But once it warms up a bit the noise goes away. and the noise also increases when rpm increase. Does anyone else have this issue? Manifold bolt or just the normal cold start noise likely. Search hemi tick, likely either lifter tick or like smurfs said exhaust bolts.
Is it normal to hear a ticking noise when starting a car?
Now, a slight ticking or tapping noise on any engine with hydraulic lifters is completely normal – especially for the first 10-20 seconds after startup while the engine is cold. If that is the case, then there’s probably no need to worry about it.

Why does my Vortec engine make a ticking noise when first started?
Keep in mind that heavier oils are slower to lubricate when the motor is first started, particularly on a cold start, which can lead to additional wear and tear on the engine. Running engine cleaner through the engine can help remove carbon deposits that can contribute to ticking at start-up.
