What are the bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the hub?
The bolts ChippyAndBeer is on about are the big bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the hub. . I just put some Loctite blue on and tighten till my elbow cracks.

all nbs truck have either a torx 55 or 18mm heads. if you dont want to buy a T55 you can take the 18mm bracket bolts off then the caliper should slide off of the bracket once the rotor isnt in the way. Thanks for everyone’s advice. I’m going to try and re-tackle this brake job tonight or this weekend. Whenever I have a free moment.
Do you need to replace brake caliper mounting bolts?
I have found different views on whether to reuse or replace the T55 Brake Caliper Bracket Mounting Bolts, and seems that some people just reuse them, some replace them every time according to service manual. As these bolts are to be pre-torqued and then tightened by angle, I would suspect they are torqued to yield.
Can a 19mm calliper carrier bolt fall out?
Unless the head is chewed up no one ever replaces them, stick some loctite on them and tighten them up and stop worrying about it, in 30+ years of working on cars I’ve never seen or heard of a calliper carrier bolt coming loose / falling out. The head used to be a 19mm bolt head so they never got chewed up, but that’s progress for you!
How big are the hex bolts on the rear brake calipers?
Could anyone tell me what size the head of the hex bolts on the rear calipers are and where I can get the tool to remove them from, just getting ready to fit new rear pads, and want to make sure i’ve got all the right tools ready, already bought the rewind tool. The rear bolts which hold on the carriers are spline sockets not torx’s, do NOT use a torx’s otherwise you will round them off. Plus they are a git to get on a 2wd A3 and even more a of a git to get to on a Quattro!
