This could lead to an explosion.” So before you fuel up, shut off the car and leave it off.

So… pulling out of a gas station onto the highway, 10 seconds later the engine hesitates/sputters for .5 seconds, and then recovers. Why is there water in my gas tank?
My understanding is that a small amount of water in the gas tank from condensation is more or less normal. Gasoline and water are very slightly miscible and that’s enough to keep the water in the tank from building up over time.
Why is gas coming out of back of my car?
If you start smelling a persistent gas odor in the back, the charcoal fume filter attached to the gas tank is likely flooded and will need to be replaced. A DTC P043E error basically means the fuel tank pressurization system (the charcoal canister) may have been damaged by the flooding.
