Why is the liftgate on my Pontiac Montana not working?
Older Montana up to 2004 still had a key cylinder on the liftgate. The electric actuator inside the liftgate has likely failed. The only way you are going to be able to service this part is to remove the interior panel from inside the van. Not easy to do with the liftgate closed, but it can be done.

What to do if your liftgate won’t open?
There you should see the latch as shown in the picture below. The lock actuator is on the latch. Try moving the latch manually by hand to open the liftgate, then when the liftgate is open, the latch can be unbolted from the bottom of the liftgate and replaced.
