Why does my Chevy 3.4 keep overheating?
This is not an awnser but i have had 7 chevys with the same problem. (that includes pontiac) the 3.4 and 3.1 have a disconnect from the temp switch to pcm or pcm to the relay.
Why does my car’s water pump keep overheating?
If you don’t see this the water pump may be faulty, a broken impeller perhaps. BE CAREFUL because as the coolant heats it will expand and flow out of the neck of the radiator. You only need to see the movement to prove that it is flowing. Switch off the engine as soon as you see the coolant flow in the neck of the radiator.
Why does my car keep overheating when I Turn on the fan?
There is a coolant temp sensor that sends the temp reading (actually a resistance value that changes with temp) to the ECU and at a programmed ‘temp’ setting the ECU operates the fan relay (s) which turn on the fans The number of relays it operates depends on the fan speed required and whether or not the A/C is operating.

Why does my car overheat when I Turn on the heat?
By a large margin, the most common cause for engine overheating is simply a low coolant level. Your engine’s cooling system relies on coolant to circulate and remove heat from the engine. If you don’t have enough coolant in there to do the job, heat will build up and your engine will overheat.

What causes a Pontiac G6 to overheat?
While there are a variety of reasons your Pontiac G6 is overheating, the most common 3 are a coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.), the radiator fan, or a failed thermostat. Coolant leak (water pump, radiator, hose etc.)

What causes the water pump in a car to overheat?
The water pump is the most active component in the cooling system and is responsible for maintaining coolant circulation. Over time, the bearing or impeller inside the water pump can wear or break, and the impeller will no longer turn. When this occurs, it’s usually a short time until the engine overheats.
What happens when an engine is too hot to touch?
An engine operates efficiently at a certain temperature. That temperature, even though it is too hot to touch by hand, is significantly cooler than it would be without a cooling system. Overheating is when the temperature of the engine climbs to a point where mechanical damage can occur.
What do you mean by temperature gauge is fluctuating?
Temperature gauge is fluctuating, sometimes showing overh… Q: Temperature gauge is fluctuating, sometimes showing overheating.

This morning I went out to check the coolant level and saw it was low, but also noticed some brown sludge at the top of the resevoir.
Where does the coolant go when the engine is turned off?
When a vehicle overheats, or after the engine has been turned off after a long ride, an expansion valve opens inside the radiator cap to allow pressurized coolant to enter the overflow reservoir.
Where is the coolant in the radiator when there is no leak?
There’s a COLD/MIN label on the tank indicating the ideal antifreeze level when the engine is cold. The coolant in the radiator should be just below the filler neck. When you are losing coolant but no leak is visible, several parts could be the guilty party.

What does a crack in the coolant light mean?
Your coolant light might be signs of a more major engine problem. When you get a crack in the block or the intake gasket you will leak coolant and oil, usually slowly at first. You may not notice the difference at first, thinking that your tank is full. A repair to a cracked engine block or head gasket is an expensive repair.
Where does the coolant go when the expansion valve is stuck?
If the expansion valve becomes stuck open, it allows a constant flow of pressurized coolant to enter the reservoir, where it turns to steam. The steam, which has coolant in it, is forced out of the the reservoir cap vent hole or loosens the cap. Steam and coolant are released into the engine compartment.
Why is my car hissing when I Turn on the heat?
The hissing might be a vacuum leak, have your mechanic look into that. When car runs hot or gets close to overheating, it is extra taxing on several parts of the engine and cooling system.
Why does my Grand Am engine rev high?

Why is the coolant in the neck of the radiator?
Observe the coolant in the neck of the radiator. After a while when the engine warms the thermostat will open and you should see the coolant start to “flow” (or swirl) in the neck of the radiator indicating that it is being pumped through the system. If you don’t see this the water pump may be faulty, a broken impeller perhaps.
Is it OK to put Trans Oil in the radiator?
Both the engine oil and trans oil passing through the radiator should be higher pressure than the water which is good news for you, there shouldn’t be water in places it can damage, oil in water doesn’t do much.
What causes oil to get into the coolant system?
The oil pump when functioning properly makes much more pressure than the coolant system. As a result, when the head gasket fails, oil can make its way into the coolant system. But not the other way around.
Why does dose my car keep overheating?
If you turn on the AC yhe fans will run and if you unplug the temp switch the fans will run but you will have hard shifting in the trans because it gets info from the temp switch. I belive the problem is in the pcm not the harness as so many cars have that same issue.
How can I Stop my Car from over heating?
I used a circular wire brush attached to my drill to remove the corrosion from the back plate. Used the same brush to create a new bear metal spot on the fender and a self taping screw to reattach it. No more over heating from there on, Fans triggered and varied speed as they should.
What kind of car does Pontiac Montana have?
I have a 2005 Pontiac Montana (not SV6). This winter I have noticed more than previous winters….when you run the defroster you get air, but it never gets very warm. You can change the front to the floor and get lots of hot air, change the front to the A/C vents and get lots of hot air. There is hot air in the back for the passengers.
Why does my car’s cooling system keep overheating?
You have replaced a number of parts, most of the cooling system, some of them twice. The first thing that jumps out at me is the electric cooling fan (s). Either the fan (s) are bad or the sensor that controls them is. Usually those fans always have electric and the sensor acts as a ground when they engage.

Why does my Pontiac Grand Prix keep overheating?
Pontiac has located this device there and all your major grounds join here. The mounting plate attached to it becomes corroded which interferes with the grounding signal from the computer to turn on the cooling fans. The bolt that held it in place was actually so rusty that the head of the bolt had broken off as I removed it.
