Other suspension and steering components often cause noises that the shocks/struts get blamed for: Ball joints, sway bar bushings & links are common causes. If you can’t find the installation tip you are looking for please just let us know by clicking here.
How much does a sway bar bushing cost?
Bushings are cheap, the sway bar bushings about $25 each, each bar takes two, and I’d suggest having them done when you have the shocks done.
What are the consequences of bad struts and sway bars?
Safety: Worn struts cause longer stopping times/distances as dead struts allow the vehicle weight to shift (sometimes unexpectedly) during braking. This weight shift is a lot more than when you are using good struts, so braking distances suffer.
When do I need to replace my sway bar?
Strut wear is detected best by driving. If it is ‘swaying on freeways on turns and high winds’ that sounds like worn struts, not surprising in a 9-year-old car. No need to have Toyota replace them, a good shop (which doesn’t necessarily sound like your local mechanic) can do it easily. VDCdriver July 6, 2016, 1:13am #3
What makes a spring squeak on a sway bar?
Odds are the squeak could be a strut spring on a spring pad, sway bar bushing, or control arm through bolt. Replacement of struts means the spring/pad issue should be resolved then with a bit of grease. Sway bar bushings and control arm bolt squeaks are easily solved with a bit of grease.
Is it affordable to replace sway bar bushings?
By the way, getting the bushings replaced should be very affordable. It’s the struts that are driving the price up. As a matter of fact, the squeakers may be the sway bar bushings, inexpensive rubber parts easily replaced.
Why does my sway bar keep falling off?
Bad bushings will show up as thunking or creaking going over bumps or as dried, cracked bushing with pieces falling off…via-a-via a visual inspection. Shot bushing can allow play in he articulating joints and adversely affect stability, causing wandering on the highway.
What does it mean when your struts and shocks are bad?
Bad struts and shocks show up as erratic tire wear, wandering and swaying especially on the highway, and occasionally with a visual leak or a “bounce test”. The “bounce test” by itself is not conclusive unless the shocks are really shot or they’re frozen.
Do you have to replace all four shocks at the same time?
As we said, you always want to replace your shocks in pairs but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should replace all four of them at the same time. The only real reason you should replace all four at the same time is if you are having problems in both the front and the back.
Why does my shock absorber make a rattling noise?
Rattling Sound: There are a few different things in your vehicle that can cause a similar rattling sound, so you may have to rely on some other symptoms to help you piece together if this is precisely caused by your shocks. The rattle could be definitely something within your suspension that needs to be checked out if you’re hearing it.
Why does my Honda Civic make a knocking noise?
I have noticed over the last couple of weeks a knocking noise has developed from the front end of my Civic when travelling over uneven road surface at low speed 10mph-30mph. I have previously had both front suspension struts, bump stops and front sub-frame replaced under warranty a couple of years ago, but my Civic is now almost 3.5 years old.
What makes a clunking noise after a strut replacement?
Noises After Shock/Strut Replacement: Causes. Internal shock or strut noise is uncommon. The most common cause for clunking noises over bumps is the mounts or attaching parts. Careful inspection is often required to identify the cause. Mountings and bushings can appear to be tight, but move slightly when driving.

Why do shocks and struts make a weird noise?
Really could not hear anything. However, if it sounds like a creaking video and they just changed out the shocks/struts it could be a bushing creaking. That can be a common thing if a suspension bushing it work and twisting in the socket or if a bushing was not tightened down with the vehicle weight was not on it.
