Do fuel pumps have check valves?
A mechanical fuel pump has a two-port check valve, one that is located on the pump’s inlet and one that is located on the pump’s outlet. The check valve is designed to make the fuel in the vehicle only flow in the correct direction from the fuel pump and to maintain pressure.
What does it mean when your fuel pump is not working?
On cold restart, there’s no residual fuel pressure in the lines and the pump has to run longer to build fuel pressure. This would be an indication that the fuel pump can’t meet the fuel volume or pressure demands of the engine when its running at high RPMs.
Can a check valve be replaced on a fuel pump?
The check valve is not available from the dealer as a separate item so most shops replace the entire fuel pump. Some car makers make that easy by incorporating a removable access cover in the back seat. Remove the cover, disconnect the power and fuel lines, remove the retaining ring and lift out the old pump.
What causes cold gas to foam on the fuel pump?
Fuel foaming happens when cold gas comes in contact with a hot carburetor fuel bowl. Evidence of this condition includes normal fuel pressure, normal accelerator pump discharge, wet carburetor air horn, black exhaust smoke, and the engine starting after a wide open throttle crank.
How does an electric fuel pump keep cool?
Electric fuel pumps run continuously with your engine, delivering high-pressure fuel to the fuel rail and injectors. Fuel pumps keep cool by staying submerged in fuel. If you make a habit of running your tank all the way to empty before filling up; your fuel pump will most likely die before its designed lifespan.
What to do if your fuel pump is bad?
If the engine requires an extended crank time when cold, test for check valve fuel leak down. Repeat the test above to build pressure. Then leave the gauge attached and leave the vehicle for several hours or overnight. If the fuel system loses more than 5-10-psi. the check valve if faulty and the fuel pump must be replaced.

What to do if your fuel filter is not working?
First I would replace all the fuel lines with new stuff, then if that does not work drill another hole about 1/4 in from the outside of the gas cap VERY SMALL, just enough to let a little air in. this should fix your problem Well I had open the fuel cap while ruining is was starting to die I opened the cap with no help.
