Why does my Nissan Maxima make a knocking noise?
I have had so many problems with my 2010 Maxima that I will NEVER buy another Nissan product! (see my review on my 2010 under screen name Charleee) A knocking noise occurs when idle and driving. At first they said it just needed oil, but after topping off my oil it still knocks, so they said it might be rod knock.
How to troubleshoot a Nissan Maxima engine idling problem?
If it is significantly higher than this at normal operating temperatures, adjust the adjustment screw of the throttle cable counterclockwise. Check to see if your transaxle is clicking at idle. Even if your Maxima is not stalling, it is still suffering from a low idle speed. Tighten the cable to the proper engine idle speed.

When does the engine knock noise go away?
Noise goes away while driving or at high rpms and there are no engine codes or check engine lights. I hear it too; I now have 42K on mine and it doesn’t seem to be getting any worse.

Why does my Nissan Maxima have no power?
We drove it from New Jersey to Florida this weekend and were dismayed to find that about half the time we’d pull off the highway the car would have no power at all when trying to accelerate from a stop sign or red light. Glad to know we’re not the only ones having this problem.
Why does my Nissan Maxima think it is in 3rd gear?
The tech contacted Nissan engineering because they had not heard of this problem (s) on a 2010 model. Nissan advised that there was something wrong in the transmission (I assume the CVT, but am unsure at this time) that made the vehicle it think that when starting from a stand still that it was in 3rd or 4th gear.
