How do you know if your headlight bulb is bad?
One of the first symptoms of a bad or failing headlight bulb is dim headlights. Over time headlight bulbs can wear out and begin to shine noticeably dimmer than when they were new. A dim headlight will not provide proper illumination and is also usually a sign that the bulb is approaching the end of its service life.
How do you test a UV light?
The only way to see this violet color is to hold something up to it that lacks pigment. A white sock or a piece of paper would suffice. Watch the item. If it turns a violet shade, the UV light bulb is functioning.

Once the socket has been removed it will expose the bulb which may have a burned mark or be light blue in color which indicates a leak in the glass. In either case the bulb is no good. What should I do if my HID light bulb is bad?
Turn on the HID headlights and wait for the bulb to shut off by itself. Then turn off your headlight switch and immediately turn it back on. This resets the ballast. If the bulb lights with a weak pink/purple color, it’s usually a bad bulb.
What happens when the light bulb is turned off?
If the bulb turns off, the ballast will automatically restart the bulb within ½ second. This happens so quickly you may not even notice that it shut off in the first place. However, as the bulb ages, it may shut off (drop its arc) more often. That can happen as many as 30 times per minute. When that occurs, the ballast tends to overheat.
